Get in the Halloween spirit with ghostly spaces and frightful fun at the Riverwalk District.

By Heidi Bethel

This time of year things get a little eerie in Reno’s Riverwalk District. From unearthly haunts to dishes a fright, now is the time to experience the spine-chilling encounters and escapades in all their ghostly glory.

CHILLING COCKTAIL HOUR
Take a step back in time with a visit to Shim’s speakeasy behind a secret door in Shim’s
Surplus Supplies. Reno’s best kept secret, this is an iconic destination for cocktail and history enthusiasts. The exterior façade features a discrete single entryway while the interior glows under clusters of moody lighting. Enjoy a classic libation at the iconic sprawling marble bar.

Make way to The Office Bar & Lounge of Hughes and Porter for a Dark ‘n’ Stormy to get in the mood for mayhem. The cocktail is made with spicy ginger beer and dark rum and allegedly earned its moniker from an old sailor who compared the murky color to that of strong storm clouds. This drinkery embodies the energy of urban nightlife with a comfortable and quaint vibe best met with fellow ghost hunters and Halloween lovers.

SINISTER PLATES AND TASTY TREATS
How about a pentagram pizza to get those apparitions ablaze? Head to Sizzle Pie and
order any of the delicious options with a little extra sauce on top that will possibly grant you otherworldly powers. It’s pure pizza sorcery.

Black spaghetti piled high trapping delectable clams, scallops, shrimp and spicy white
wine butter sauce and lemon is on the ticket for a delightfully devilish shock to the taste
buds. Liberty Food & Wine Exchange is the place for these tasty bites and so much
more.

Dorinda’s Chocolates are sinfully delicious. Embrace the mood and opt for the dark chocolate variety. Foregoing trendiness in favor of incredible flavor, Dorinda’s award-winning chocolates are all natural, hand-made creations. With products, in whatever form they take, made with fair trade ingredients of the best possible quality, enjoy an indulgent, but ethical experience with every bite, hand-crafted by some of the region’s most celebrated chocolatiers.

GHOULISH ADVENTURE
Channel your inner monster and put those horror film nightmares at bay with some axe throwing practice at Reno Axe Bar. Inspired by the growing popularity of a favorite outdoor sport, this casual urban atmosphere is an experience to share around the campfire between ghost stories. Professional instructors teach patrons how to throw axes, followed by some friendly competition and target practice.

For even more wicked fun, download the Haunted History Map highlighting all of those
historic places in the Riverwalk District where you just may encounter a being from the
netherworld. Be sure to checkout many other places along the corridor embracing all the ghastly energy of the times.
